We're back again for another round of Stuff We're Loving Lately! You know the feeling, you've gotten a hold of something awesome, and you love love love it! That's what this little blog series is about; things we've been loving right now. Without further ado, here is our family's list!
1. Friday Ice Cream
I started picking Pirate up after school on Fridays. She gets in the car and I have her favorite song playing on the radio, "Rotten to the Core" from the Descendants soundtrack. She gets buckled and we head to the ice cream shop. This is our newest tradition. And it's a special time.
It's a great and yummy way to spend some time with Pirate, make some memories and fill her little heart up with happy feelings. Tootsie Roll is a big fan, as well! Yay, ice cream!🍦

Who doesn't love a bit of nostalgia?! Space Quest! Duck Tales! Concentration! Avoid the Noid! These were the games of my childhood.
I grew up using MD-DOS. If you don't know what that is, just consider me old. All you need to know is that DOS was a computer operating system before everyone used a mouse, a touch pad or a touchscreen. Before the world met Google. If you think these games have gone somewhere to die, you might be right. But recently, we've come across these cool websites that have resurrected the games of the past.
Thursday, Pirate and I had a blast spending a couple of hours playing these old school games. You can find some here and here. Oh, and it's totally free to play right in your browser!

I can't help myself, but I'm a sucker for this abandoned duo. That's right, this band seems to be no longer. Ryan McCartan & Dove Cameron, and subsequently The Girl and the Dreamcatcher, have broken up. Insert all sad, sad emjois here.
BUT! Their songs are still on YouTube and still able to be purchased online. Lucky me, because I can't seem to get enough.
You an click here to find it on Amazon, it comes as a digital download - the whole album or whatever single song you fancy. I'm listening to them now as I type!

4. Sol-u-Guard

This bottle of magic is my BFF when it comes to household cleaners.

Is that weird?
That's weird. Let me explain.

I used to swear by the power of bleach. You couldn't tell me that anything could possibly be better.
That is, until a few years ago, when it started making me sick. I'd clean the house and spend the next week feeling like I had a nasty cold. I could feel it in my chest, my throat hurt, my head hurt. Delightful, right?

That's when I remembered a company that my parents we a part of when I was a child: Melaleuca. Spoiler alert: they're awesome. More about them later.

These are products that work really, really well! But are made so safely that they don't even need safety caps or hazardous warning. This is a big deal to us since Tootsie Roll, our one year old, puts ALL THINGS in her mouth.

Bottom line: we're not getting sick from cleaning the house.

Sol-U-Guard is one of our favorite products. One spray and smells good, natural, and a healthy clean.  Powered by thyme oil and citric acid, it kills 99% of household germs. And we'd have a lot of them otherwise.

If you want to know more, let me know in the comments or send me a message on our FB page.

5. Descendants 2 Trailer

Oh, c'mon! You had to know this one was coming! The trailer for this dropped last week at the Radio Disney Music Awards.
It's pretty wicked! Pun totally intended.
We are eating this trailer up. If you read last week's post, you may already know what die-hard Descendants fans we are around here. Just ask Pirate.

So that's what we're loving right now! What about you? Drop us a comment below, and tell us what you think.

Have you ever just gotten a hold of something, started enjoying the heck out of it and realized THIS IS INCREDIBLE!?  This post is about a handful of awesome things that we're loving lately. I've asked Pirate for some help making this list. Without further ado, here are the things that our family is loving lately!

Remember, if the words are underlined and light up in a different color, it's an affiliate link - you can use it to jump on over to Amazon and check the product out!

Oh, we cannot get enough of this movie here! Ask my six year old, and she will tell you that it's the best thing going. The villains from our favorite stories have all been rounded up and banished to their own island; but this isn't their story. It's the story of their children. The son of Belle and the Beast is about to become king and his first royal proclamation is to give the children of the evil villains a chance at a normal life.
Songs. Magic spells. Friendship. Mischief. It's a lot of fun. Pirate and I watch it almost every Friday night when we have our Girls Night.

2. Springtime
This weather cannot be purchased, I know! But we would be liars if we didn't tell you that this has been something that we are LOVING it! Loving it with big hearts and dramatic emojis. Fresh air, sunshine and mud are all so good for us. We could just soak up that vitamin D all day long. Even the rain has been fun. As April showers bring May flowers, my girls and I have a love for playing in the rain and splashing in the water.

3. Our Frozen bottle -aka- Zak! Designs Water Bottle (25 oz)
I found this bottle on sale at a local grocery store, and I cannot say enough good things about it! I originally bought this for Pirate. It has Anna and Elsa, need I say more?! But I will say more. I love it. We haven't had any leaks out of it, which is a big deal!
I struggle with making myself drink enough water, but this makes it seem less daunting. It sounds crazy that a bottle would make a difference, and maybe it's the design, but it makes staying hydrated less of a chore. Even Tootsie Roll is a fan. She did make a bit of a mess, but not bad for a one year old! You can find several other designs for this 25 oz. bottle on Amazon.

4. Intex Snapset Pool
Our girls got this little pool as an Easter present! Super fun! It was easy to set up and easy to drain. I'll let the pictures tell the rest.
Can't wait until summer! We're going to be using this like crazy!

5. Fishing!
Pirate and Mr. Incredible have taken to the lake. Fishing is their new favorite daddy-daughter pastime. And much to my dismay, they've actually brought a few home! There's nothing quite like the lingering smell of fish to make your house feel cozy! (Okay, it wasn't that bad. I just don't do fish - but that's a another story for another time!)

So that's what we're loving right now! What about you? Drop us a comment below, and tell us what you think.

Last week, Mr. Incredible got a magical
Amazon Prime box. We live for these boxes, they always hold such treasure. And with free shipping to boot!

I don't know if you know it, but my husband is one of the trendy beardlovin' men of today. And while he's never been the completely clean-shaven type, the beard has been an adjustment for me. I like to think I'm a cool wife. So imagine my face when I turned the corner a few weeks ago, and saw him brushing his beard with my hairbrush. Oh, I was all kinds of amused.

Something had to be done.

Behold, the Beard Comb!
made and sold by: Gentlemen's Tools
You can click above, or right here, to see this product on Amazon.

The following is Mr. Incredible's Review:

"This little box you see above came to us well packaged to keep its contents safe. The box itself is a good and study and may last for quite a while. But more than that, they actually put thought and creativity into the packaging.

The comb itself came in a really well made leather pouch, the comb is made of solid sandlewood and the smell is awesome. The comb goes through the beard without snagging, and fits in the hand and in my shirt pocket nicely.

Can't seem to say it enough, it's really well made."

I will add that this comb seems to be backed by awesomeness. This comes from their product page on Amazon:

"Your purchase will be backed by a LIFETIME No-Hassle Free Replacement Guarantee! We want you to be 100% HAPPY so if there is an issue with your product for any reason we will Refund you." So, there's that!

And there you have it. A quick and easy gift for the bearded man in your life. While I clearly have no beard experience, I can honestly say that he hasn't been caught using my hairbrush since this sweet little comb showed up; and he's taken it everywhere with him. To me, that makes this comb legit!

What did you think? Anything else you want to see Mr. Incredible try and review? What's your go-to quick gift for the people in your life? Leave us a comment below.

We were given the opportunity to buy this beard comb at a discounted price, and so we did. Nothing was required of us in return. As always, our opinions are our own.
If you didn't know it, Friday was National Coffee Cake day!
You guys, they must've seen me a mile away. I jumped on this holiday like crazy woman! I got what I needed from the grocery store to make Homemade Raspberry Danish. I've had a love affair with Entenmann's danishes for as long as I can remember. And when Google dropped a copycat recipe in my lap, I could practically taste it. WE HAD TO MAKE IT.

My original plan was to make it early Friday morning, so Pirate and Mr. Incredible could have some for breakfast before work and school. But, Tootsie Roll woke up sick, and this mama doesn't sleep well with a sick baby. Our fresh pastry for breakfast turned into a "Quick! Eat this! We gotta go!" as I handed her a chocolate muffin and cup of coffee.

For us, National Coffee Cake Day simply transformed into Coffee Cake Weekend!

Okay, I know it's technically not a coffee cake - but always remember: nothing about this blog is, or ever will be, about being perfect! Just go with it! 😜 I'll link the recipe here.

Anything celebrated well should be documented well! Or so says, mama paparazzi! Here are some pics of us making and enjoying our weekend with our Homemade Raspberry Danish.

Our National Coffee Cake Raspberry Danish Day Weekend

(top left) I felt so organized setting up all the ingredients first that I felt it needed to have its own picture. If this isn't already a life hack, it should be!
(top right) It took me three tries to get that yeast going in the warm milk, finally I threw in some sugar. It didn't mention that in the recipe, but I made an executive decision and fed those little guys some sugar. It worked!
(bottom left) My poor sick one year old, Tootsie Roll, woke up from her nap and needed to lend a helping hand.
(bottom right) And here it is, in all its yumminess, our Homemade Raspberry Danish! And, that's it! Hope you enjoyed National Coffee Cake Day.

Leave us a comment below, we'd love to hear from you! Do you get any Coffee Cake or Danish on Friday? What's your favorite sweet?

We have had quite the weather lately.
It will be sunny and glorious one day, and then BAM! the heavens open with rain and thunder. Weather woes light up the Facebook news feed and the power flickers.

Yesterday was one of those beautiful days. Today, not so much. Yesterday, we played in the water and the mud. Today would be a good day for Benjamin Franklin to learn something shocking.

So what do we do when the weather gets nasty, and we're stuck inside? What do we do when we're not certain the power (read: Netflix and lights) will stay on?
I'm glad you asked!

I've rounded up a list of 5 (non-emergency) things we like to keep on-hand during bad weather and power outages! These are things that have saved our sanity and kept the fun going. These may be actual items or just a fun idea. Either way, Mom & Dad have gone from zero to hero with this list!

But first, I need to say it. Always be mindful of your weather and safety! Safety first, always. Make good decisions. For realz.

FIVE Things We Keep On-Hand in Bad Weather
-aka- Rainy Day Game Changers
1. Glow Sticks
When the power goes out, nothing makes you question your environment (and your family's headcount) quite like not being able to see anyone in the dark. We can grab a pack of glow sticks at Dollar Tree. Pirate is a huge fan of glow sticks, they make life fun! I like that, in most cases, they're safer around kids than candles. I mean, don't be crazy. Don't microwave them or bite them! 😜 They've got a few different styles to choose from at Dollar Tree: bracelets, necklaces, even swords! We like this style of glow sticks for power outages!

By the way, if there's still life in your glow stick after the power comes back on, stick it in the freezer until next time! We've had glow sticks last for multiple uses this way!

2. Candles & Marshmallows
A few weeks ago, Pirate and I roasted some marshmallows at the kitchen table. You can see our post about it here! So much fun. Lots of yumminess. Lots of smiles. It's not your everyday activity. And, the best part, NO ELECTRICITY required! Perfect for the rainy power outage!

3. Board Game
Maybe it's cliche, but board games are awesome. Something about a good classic, you just can't go wrong. We were short on board games this winter. We got snow and were home bound for a wee bit. We took to the internet and DIY'd our own game of Clue! Pirate had never played before, but she loved it! You can read about that here!

4. Charged Mobile Devices
Charged devices are key! Sometimes nothing will soothe my child as well as her favorite show! It's hard to freak out over the lightening when your hypnotized by Elsa singing your jam! Did you know that there are some movies on Netflix that you can download onto your mobile devices to watch without internet? Score!
Not to mention, Pirate will happily spend hours on my phone playing her favorite games: Tom the Cat, that one Pet Rescue game, or the emergency doctor game where she performs surgeries and c-sections! (I'm being 100% real on that!)*ick*

5. Books
How could I make a list like this without including books?! These are some awesome thing that don't need electricity, don't crash, and don't need to be charged! Yes, I'm being sassy on this one. But for real, grab a flashlight and your favorite book! Our favorite book right now is Elsie's Endless Wait. You guys! It's so good. We are only in chapter three, but I cannot get over how uplifting and God glorifying this children's book is. Elsie is an eight year old little girl, who has never felt loved or been treated fairly. She is picked on and would every excuse to repay evil with evil, but instead she shows kindness and patience and the love that only comes from her Savior. On every page, we see her faith lived out. It is wonderful.

And that's our list! I hope your weather is gorgeous, but if it isn't, I hope you find this list useful! Don't forget to leave us a comment below, what do you do when the power goes out?

As a bonus, I want to see Mr. Incredible produce a tasty cup of coffee without electricity! Anyone else? He's an Eagle Scout, I might add! Add a comment below if you want to see him do it! Tweet us @caffein8edmelly with #NoPowerCoffeeChallenge ☕☕☕

Note: Please, always take proper safety precautions and more than common sense when using candles, lighters, fire, anything hot, anything dangerous, or anything I haven't thought of! Everything in this post took place under responsible, alert, and sober adult supervision. Seriously, make smart decisions. Future you will thank you!

Spring is finally here. The days are longer and warmer.
We are loving the outside world.

The trees. The sunshine. The birds. The bugs. Even the bees and wasps buzz around with the promise of summer.

Our front porch is starting to bloom where over the winter it was just dormant and lifeless. I could go on and on and on about how we love these days. This lemon-thyme plant has come back for several years now. I wish you could smell it through the screen!
We've been spending a lot of time on the front porch and in the yard this week. It's like we cannot get enough of it. But please, remind me of this feeling in the middle of July when we're blasting the a/c because we're melting!
Tootsie Roll loves getting to splish and splash this year. She is so excited to just discover every single thing. And Pirate? She discovered something cool. She was playing with the water hose, running one of her obstacle courses and cooling off when we looked up and saw a rainbow!

There are few things Pirate loves more than a rainbow. Even when she was itty bitty, rainbows have been her thing. And what perfect timing! Do you know what today is? It's National Find a Rainbow Day!  While many people have many thoughts about rainbows, in our house we are thankful that it serves as a reminder of God's love and goodness.

As for me: sitting on the porch, soaking up the vitamin D, feeling the heat of the sun on my face, drinking my coffee, having my coffee stolen by a six year old, and just watching the girls play has been the highlight of my week.

And that's what we've been into this week. I know this isn't our typical post, but we've been a bit distracted by all things spring.

Leave us a comment, how are you enjoying your weather? Has spring sprung? Did you find a rainbow today?

It's peanut butter jelly time!

In case you didn't know, today is National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day! I don't know about you, but the good ol' PB & J was certainly a staple of my childhood.

But how did I know of this spectacular holiday? I discovered National Holiday Calander! Oh, it's fun. Yay, for something for almost every day of the year!

In preparation for this yummy holiday, I learned a few things. The typical American kid will have consumed about 1,500 of these sandwich masterpieces by the time they graduate high school. Also, a recipe for the Peanut Butter & Jelly sandwich first appeared in Good Housekeeping magazine in 1896. Wow! (These fun little factoids were found in this Wikipedia article!)

Today, Pirate and I want to share our own take on the peanut butter and jelly with you.

Behold, the Peanut Butter & Jelly Quesadilla!

It's everything you've dreamed of in a pb&j, but it's snug in a warm, crunchy quesadilla.

What you will need:
-peanut butter

You guys! This is so simple.

First, you're going to grab a tortilla and something to spread your peanut butter and jelly with.

Spread peanut butter on one side of your tortilla, and jelly on the other side.

Fold the tortilla, smashing the pb & j together.

Throw your pan on the stove and turn it on. We like to turn the burner on somewhere between medium and almost high heat.
Throw some butter in the pan.

Once the butter is melted, toss the tortilla into the pan and let it toast up nicely. When the first side is tan and crunchy, flip and repeat.

It's probably going to get a tad messy. Ours did. It's OK. It just adds character.

When both sides are done, plate it.

Don't burn your tongue off, remember that it just came off the stove.
Be careful.

Once it's cooled and safe to eat, dig in and enjoy!

This is one of our favorites! Something about the warm PB & J and the crunchy quesadilla... mmmmm! I can't explain why it's so great. It just is.

Tell me, do you like Peanut Butter & Jelly? Have you ever heard of this PB&J Day? Leave us a comment!

As always, come find us on FB at Caffeinated Melly! We're on instagram now, too - also @ CaffeinatedMelly

NOTE: Always be safe, use good and sober judgment when using the stove, knives, or any thing I have yet to think of! Good adult supervision is always advised. Make smart decisions, future you will thank you.

We are not decaf drinkers here.
In fact, the last time I bought decaf coffee was years ago. And it wasn't for me. We had company over and we were trying to be considerate. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure decaf is super. But, can someone explain the goodness to me? I mean, sure. Coffee is coffee. And with enough cream and sugar, I suppose I could drink anything. (I don't really mean that!) But really.

Then, along came Five Cups Coffee.  It came to me in a magical Amazon Prime box. In case you don't know, "I offer free shipping" is a great pick-up line.

My thoughts were something like this: Um, it's decaf. But it's apparently special. I mean, it says so on the package, "The World Finest Coffee". (That's a direct quote.)

A roasting date of September-something was written on the back of the package, as well as some good coffee making directions. I didn't get a picture of that - oops.

Inside, whole beans! But we had no fear, the Magic Bullet was here. In a matter of seconds, we were ready to brew.

Y'all, this stuff is good. Mr. Incredible and I have had several cups over the last week. It's a really smooth cup of coffee, with a good taste. That's probably what stood out the most.

Why is this coffee different?
That's generally my first question. According to the packaging and their website, they use a gentle and chemical free decaffeination process called "Swiss Water". I had never heard of it before, but that's no biggie.

The great thing about this process? Apparently, you can drink more than 5 cups a day with no health risks. That's what they brag. Oh, and it's organic. So, yay for that! Oh, and it comes with a money back guarantee if you're not loving it. But, in all honesty, Mr. Incredible and I are actually loving it.

It's right here on Amazon, or you can go straight to their website! I'll link it here. I had the chance to buy this coffee at a discounted price, and jumped at it! But it did not come with any obligation to blog or comment about it, I did not have to name my firstborn after this coffee, I did not have to get a tattoo, and this is an affiliate post. This is just me telling you what's in my coffee cup! These are my actual thoughts and opinions!

I'll close with a half candid selfie of Mr. Incredible and myself feeding our coffee addiction on the way to church. And that's it! Go check out Five Cups Coffee. Don't forget to check us out at Caffeinated Melly on FB!

In the meantime, what's in your coffee cup?
Is there an awesome coffee out there that we need to try?

"Oh, I'm a Gummy Bear. Yes, I'm a Gummy Bear. Oh, I'm a yummy, tummy, funny lookin' gummy bear! Oh yeah."

That is the heart of was is playing in my house right now!

Who doesn't love Gummy Bears? Whether it's the candy, the song, or the TV show from my childhood, there is nothing but love - at least that's the case in my house!

There was a knock on our door Thursday; but as soon as I answered it all that was waiting on me was a box. But not just any box. A magical box with the words Amazon Prime written on it. Inside, was this silicone bear mold! Perfect for ice, chocolate, or those yummy little gummies!

Pirate did a spectacular un-boxing video. I'll link it here as soon as I get it posted. In the heart of full disclosure: it may not be today!
I'll try. #momlife

How cute are these? I got them from a seller named Alpha & Sigma. I actually received them at a discounted price*, but knowing now how much we enjoyed this product, I feel the price tag is worth it!

Every so often, Mr. Incredible has to work on a Saturday and we end up home bound. I wanted to make sure we had a fun day, so it was the perfect day to play in the kitchen.

Once we got Tootsie Roll down for her afternoon nap, and one trusty google search later, we landed at Skip To My Lou where she had this amazingly easy recipe for Gummy Candy.

You guys!
We followed it to a tee. It was perfection.

I'm thinking it took us under twenty minutes to get to the point where we were filling our bear molds. I feel like we made really good time, considering in that time we ended up rescuing Tootsie Roll from her nap time (she wasn't feeling it yet!), and played some soccer.

Truth be told, there's some potential for 'messy'. And by "some", I mean a lot of potential for messy. But where there's a mess, there are things like memories and love.

Then we stuck it in the fridge for the shortest 20 minutes known to man. Really, it was closer to 15. We couldn't wait! The little bears popped out of the silicone so, so easily! And they left absolutely no residue behind.

Look at that little guy! Pirate was beside herself in love with this activity. She packaged some up for her grandparents, aunt and uncle, and cousin; she ate a handful of them, and we called this a WIN for today! I couldn't have been more pleased with how this all came out!
All the sweetness and chewy texture was there. They were a little sticky, but that was fine. It didn't take away from these little bears' awesomeness at all.

A few details before I forget:
We were able to full about 70 of the 100 empty little bear spots.
When the mixture cools, it firms up. We stuck it in the microwave for about 15 seconds to reheat and soften it. We had no issue with it.

And, that's it!

What did you think? Leave us a comment, what's your favorite candy? Have you ever made gummies with a mold? What should we try next?

As always, come back for more! Like us at Caffeinated Melly on Facebook so you don't miss anything!

* I received this at a discounted price, but nothing was required of me in return. I do not owe this company a review, a blog post, my firstborn child, or anything else. I am happy to review this product for the fun of it, my opinions are always my own.
